Sayil, beautiful Sayil

Sayil is the last ruin on the Puuc Trail. Well, there are probably more, but they aren't excavated and on the map. And Sayil is beautiful (of course). The Mérida tourist magazine we used for a guide said that the palace at Sayil is often compared to the ruins at Crete. You can see why. You expect a minotaur to trot out at any minute. I don't know why Ginger is making a Y. I'm making an S. A rather impressive S, I think.
Unfortunately, the palace was roped off at the base and we were too sick to push our luck. We should have climbed it anyway since there weren't many people around. Wait! This was where the snotty Argentinian couple very superiorly told us how far the next building was on the trail. If our spanish hadn't been so good, I think they would have thumbed their noses at us.
Anyway, the place begs exploring, but we were tired and seriously sick. I had been sick for a couple of days but Ginger was just starting to experience her first bout of diarrhea, so we didn't get to explore the palace. But we did climb the Sayil mirador.
