My Gilligan

I don't think I've bragged enough about my dog Gilligan lately. He's the coolest, smartest, most fab dog in the world! And here he is in all his glory.

Snake digesting series...

Here is a series of the snake. The discerning viewer might discern that the lump o'lunch is gradually moving away from the snake's face and toward its cloaca (that's fancy-pants herp-speak for butt-hole). The even more discerning viewer might discern what I thought to be a curious phenomenon: it appears that the snake has another layer of eyelids that have closed over its eyes in the first few pictures. When I walked up to it, it's eyes looked to be covered in a layer of film and almost reddish. But as the lump (is it called a bolus? that's what you call a lump of food in a human mouth) o'lunch moved along the digestive pathway, the eyes got back to normal.
I don't know what kind of snake it is, but since it's in a tree and obviously NOT a cotton-mouth, it cannot be venomous, so I felt safe taking pictures.

Snake digesting

I was boxing up stuff in the studio because I am anal about being on time and I have to move to Memphis in about a month - why put it off till the last minute? So, I heard like all the birds in the world screaming right outside and I knew it had to be a snake. That's one thing all the birds agree on. So I grabbed the camera and ran to the scene and, sure enough, a snake in a tree. It had just eaten what I suspect must have been a young blue jay. It was pretty sad. Parents and siblings were hopping mad all around and there was nothing I could do about it other than kill the snake, cut it in half and hope the bird was still alive. But the snake has to live too. So I just photo documented. Enjoy...

My Brother-Nephew

Buddy, now living with Ginger and Luis, is my mother's dog. This makes him my brother, as we share the same mother. But now that my sister has sort of temporarily adopted him, he is my nephew. I thought I'd post his picture because a) this is a very good one of him, and b) I haven't posted many of him. He usually looks like he is being beaten and tortured in pictures, so this one is a treat.

Ginger with the Boys

Ginger with Buddy and Fuego. Daddy and I went up to Raleigh to deliver some wire fencing and pick up a desk. We had a good time and I got some fantastic pictures of my new nephew Fuego. Prepare for Irish Setter overload!

5:25 AM part 3

Ok, so here are three more pictures from my porch taken at 5:25 AM without the flash. I think Enrique is right and this is just normal for this time of year. In any case, it's getting boring taking pictures of the corner of the sky so I think this'll be the last set. These are from (from top to bottom) 3 June, 4 June, and 5 June.
My last day of work at the clinic (hopefully forever) will be July 30. I smile bigger every day.

Random object for the day quiz

I didn't get out in time to get my daily 5:25 AM photo so I'm posting this instead. I don't know what it is. I think it fell from a tree. If you know what it is, please hip me to it. It looks like it might be a seed pod of some kind. That's the dog water bowl and a medium-sized flower pot in the background. I'd guess the thing is a little over an inch in diameter.
