the nunnery at Uxmal

Here are some more action scenes from the nunnery section. Like I said before, it was never a nunnery. But the area is very pretty and the arches and flat lawn in the middle are soooooo pretty. The walls are decorated with lattice-like carving, small pillar carvings, and several different animal carvings (mainly birds). And some carvings that look like roof tile (kind of) but are feathers. The features of Puuc architecture that differ from other Mayan styles are the lattice-looking carvings, the A-shaped arches, and the general layout of the sites. There are a lot of stylized Tlaloc masks or faces in the architecture. But we're just having as much fun as possible with bowels a'fire.
