Hotel OsoRios

We found a hotel as soon as we could. There are a few hostels. Bunk bed dorms and shared bathrooms. Very cheap. But we feel we've moved beyond that for now so we got a room with a private bath and a ceiling fan for $25US a night. The lovely Hotel Osorio, owned by a socialist woman whose family has been there for generations and used to take 3 day boat trips to Cuba for honeymoons and other special occasions. Nice, huh? From the balcony you can see the sea from both directions. The design of the bricks fascinated Ginger, and I'm glad about that because it makes for some pretty spectacular imagery.
Isla Mujeres has a statue of a Goddess. Ixchel. The plaque says "Ixchel. Mayan goddess of the moon, fertility, and of weaving and other virtues. She took sanctuary in Isla Mujeres, where they made offerings in order to obtain good salt harvests."
There are several legends about the name of the island, but I like the Goddess one best. And since She has Her own statue, I think She wins.
