Firulaisa, my almost dog

This one might make me cry. But I went to visit my friend Mariana back during Semana Santa. She lives in Tepoztlan (pictures to come in a subsequent post) and she had this dog living at her house that she called Firulaisa. Firu is a wonderful, sweet, awesome dog and I decided that if I could, I would bring her home with me.
I bought my ticket to come home in July and the guy said that I could bring her on the plane, no problem. He said there is a special section under the seats that is pressurized and airconditioned so it doesn't matter what time of year the dog is traveling. He said it would cost me $200 hen I got to the airport.
So, I went back to Mariana's (at great personal expense) taking over a week off work, to get Firulaisa fixed because she was pregnant.
I spent 10 days in hell listening to the idiot Mariana rant about politics that she doesn't understand and lose all control of her emotions. She gets high all the time and has no clue about much. she is completely self-centered and ridiculous.
Anyway, after this miserable trip (but I DID manage to get Firulaisa fixed) I called to check on my reservation only to find out that NO I can't take the dog.
It was going to cost me over $600 to take her. And I don't have that kind of money.
So I don't have a choice. I have to leave her.
I hope I can save some money and somehow find a cheap flight to Mexico in the fall, when there is not an embargo on animals traveling. Then maybe I can go get her. I hope she's still around by then.
I love this little dog.

Giza with Sayed

We went to Giza to the pyramids!!!! It was Sayed's first trip there but it was my 4th so I felt like an expert :) But we did go into the burial chamber of the Khafra pyramid - something I had never dared to do before. We wanted to go into the Khufu pyramid but they ran out of tickets while we were waiting in line.
But the BEST part about this trip to the pyramids was that we had out marriage papers and I got to pay the EGYPTIAN price to get in. It rocked my world. 5EGP instead of 60EGP.

Sick of FaceBook

I would much rather just keep this little blog with nobody reading it than deal with facebook crap.
Here I am in Mobile, AL. I went to see Ginger and Mommy. Ginger and her friend Amy ran in the Azalea Trail Run, a 10k thingy. It was fun. Unfortunately, Mommy's dog was dying - we thought- and I missed seeing Ginger fly across the finish line.
The dog lived.
But it was a very good trip away from the horrors of thesis writing here.
I finished my thesis, btw, and passed my defense and now am just waiting to get it back from the grad school so I can make the necessary corrections. Blah blah blah. Everything seems blah today.

Valentine's Day picture 2010

Me and Sayed at the High Dam at Aswan. Nice.
Technically this picture was taken on about the 2nd of January 2010. But I'm using it for my Valetines Day picture. Because Sayed is my sweetheart.

My man Sayed

I know this is out of chronological order and all, but I was just feeling happy about my sweet-heart and wanted to post his picture. Probably it's all the romance associated with Hathor :)
This is my felucca captain, Sayed, who has my heart with him in Aswan.

Thanksgiving Trampoline

Dawn has a trampoline. Need I say more?
Ok, so I didn't do a back flip. But that is ONLY because Eric made the (quite valid) point that only the crappy doctors are working on Thanksgiving day.

Mommy's new dog

My Mommy got a new dog. His name is Buddy and he is about the sweetest dog I've seen in a long time. Well, obviously my Gilligan was sweeter. Sunny wasn't though (l. p. h.).
He is suspiciously calm for a boxer.

Meeting G on the hi-way

On the way back from the Teribus gig at the Highland Games, I stopped to meet Ginger for breakfast. We were in some little tourist kind of town in Tennessee- or maybe in Virginia. It was really cute and trendy and overpriced and everything I hate about the people that I should logically have the most in common with - over-educated white people. But whatever. There is a really cool hotel there that we walked around in. We want to take Mommy there for her b'day next year. And it was sooooooooo great to see my little sister. I miss Wingy.

Me-maw

My paternal grandparents: Elbert Bryman Deason and Edith Percival Jones. So do I look like her? Or does Ginger look like her? We both look like her in some ways I think.

Pensacola Beach with Amanda

Amanda and I went to the beach yesterday in Pensacola. It was awesomely perfect. The water was fab and the sky was blue and the sun was kind. I need to work on my tan. And I need to work on reading signs. Apparently I was supposed to "Keep Off the Dunes". Oops.

Mohammed and Shicko

Some pictures of Mohammed, Ragab's nephew, and Shicko. I love these guys. I feel so much like we are family. It felt like it then and it still feels like it.

Mardi Gras 2009

I skipped German and went south for some Mardi Gras parades the weekend before Fat Tuesday. Mommy and Daddy (and Rick- I won't even get into that) went to the parades with me and we caught more beads than we could carry and a bunch of Moon Pies too. Here's our total haul from 3 parades piled on Mommy's dining room table in all its glory.

Daddy and sibs

All four of them: Daddy, Ebb, Weedy, and Turvy.

G's family portrait

As their unofficial biographer, I have to post a family portrait from Christmas 2008.

Sam at Christmas

Sam I Am is still a handsome doggie. I worry that he might not see another Solstice, but he's had an excellent run for his money this time around.

Butterfly game

Dr. Luis solved the butterfly puzzle.

Pierre checking out Sam

You could say this is a picture of me and Ginger by the tree at Christmas. Or, as I have done, you could elect to experience this as a picture of Pierre sniffing Sam's butt in greetings.

Pierre et Moi

I told you. I love this little dog.

Daddy's 2008 Christmas Tree

This year Daddy said he didn't feel like cutting down a tree from our convenient Xmas Tree farm, so he bought one from display in the local Dollar General, complete with decorations. He just carried it out to the car as is and put it on the TV at home.

Doctor Luis - Part IV

After the first part of the ceremony we all went, along with Rodrigo's family, to a fast-food burrito place for a quick lunch before the second ceremony. I was only able to get one or two good pictures at the second ceremony. Luis' other brother Alfredo couldn't come, but he and his wife Lily sent a cake. The k9 boys couldn't keep their little eyes off of it.
