TV trick
I just discovered a new trick that my fantastic gigantic TV can do: play slide shows of photos on CDs. The resolution is crap-o-la, but it's still cool. Too bad I couldn't get rid of the flash. I can just imagine myself, one of these days, in my imagination, when I have time to do nothing except drink drink-y-poos and look at all my vacation pictures, wishing I were in the Caribe.

Memphis Snow
It's not really a nature walk. But nature is outside, and I did walk outside my door to get this footage. The day of President Obama's historic inauguration greeted me in Memphis with SNOW!!!
I can't believe they didn't cancel class and close all the schools and roads. It totally sucked. I had to go to class and work anyway. And it was SNOWING. BIG.

Ricardo Montalban
Ricardo Montalban died today. He was a good actor even though he had some silly roles (Mr. Roarke comes to mind). But he will always be Khan Noonien Singh to me. He is the only "Star Trek" movie villain who previously appeared on "Star Trek" (1966). He played Khan Noonien Singh in the "Star Trek" (1966) episode "Space Seed" and Star Trek: The Wrath of
Khan (1982). He won't be forgotten.
A horse named Ed-Bob. Or not.
Here are some pictures from the same trip to Beale Street, but with my camera instead of Natalie's. It's pretty much the same. We had a great time, as always with Natalie! We talked to a horse-carriage dude. His horse was named Bad Bob, but I kept thinking he said it was Ed Bob and I thought that was a funny name for a horse. He said that his horse was a retired race horse. Bob seemed content and his feet looked good. But we didn't ride in the carriage.
Johnny Cash Bar
Of course we couldn't just stay at the one place. So we went a little further up Beale St to this place with a Johnny Cash tribute band. The singer sounded a whole lot like JC, but he kept talking between songs and he should have just shut up. We got some good pictures here, though. And apparently I called Ginger (more than once) during the night to let her enjoy the music with us. She seemed pretty honored by the thoughtfulness.
Blues Boogie Cafe
I think it's called the Blues Boogie Cafe. It's on Beale St. and the food is decent (being a vegetarian it's hard for me to tell, but they have fair salads). And the band was good.
Beale Street
Here we are on Beale Street. Natalie's camera takes these really cool pictures without a flash. Everything looks red and exciting.
Natalie's Visit
My friend Natalie lives in Texas and her dad lives in Chattanooga, TN. Memphis is conveniently in-between, so she stopped here on the drive there and on the way back. It was so much fun, hanging out with Natalie again. We were at college together in the 80s in Mobile at the University of South Alabama. I took her on what's quickly becoming the standard Jenny-Winny-Whiney tour of Memphis: Peabody ducks, Beale Street bars, Midtown nightlife and House of Mews. I never realize how much I miss Natalie till I get to see her. She's one of the most fun people I know and she laughs really loud.
Fortunately, I have to go to Dallas this spring and I can visit her then.

Jedi Jenny
FINALLY! Somebody has invented a Force Trainer for aspiring Jedi. It should be available at a toy store near you in Fall 2009 for about $100. Of course I need one and if you love me, you could get me one. I think it's called the "Jedi Force Trainer."

Whiney Tours of Memphis
I got to play tour guide today. Carrie and Betsy and Pat came to Memphis and visited me while they were here! I didn't have any kind of Memphis-sight-seeing plan set up so I had to choreograph on the fly. We ate at a Midtown Deli and went to see the ducks at the Peabody (where one of the little bastards bit me. The ducks I mean. Not the McGees. One of the ducks bit me). I wanted them to be able to visit the cats in the House of Mews, but it was closed. I feel I need to plan better Memphis tours for the future, but we had fun anyway.
